Maggie and Matt’s Chicago Engagement session at Piece Pizza in Wicker Park, Lacuna Lofts in Pilsen

Now that the holidays are over, and the New Year is in full swing, I am excited to get back to blogging!

What I have for you today is some favorites from Maggie and Matt’s Engagement session just this last Fall. I love it when couples want to incorporate personal places into their engagement session. We started the shoot at Piece Pizza, which was one of Maggie and Matt’s first date spots. I also love that they actually ate pizza and drank beers during the shoot; they weren’t just props! 🙂 We then headed to Lacuna Loft, which has a beautiful skyline view, and interesting interiors.

Here’s a lovely story from the Bride and Groom to go along with my favorite images from the shoot! Can’t wait to photograph their big day in April!

How we met… Although after we met, we found out we had some friends of friends in common, we met through a dating site sponsored by a local Chicago paper that doesn’t exist anymore. Matt was the 2nd person I’d gone on an actual date with because I wasn’t entirely sure about the whole online dating thing. After that date, it didn’t matter because we weren’t using the site anymore!

How we got engaged… Matt likes to try fancy restaurants in the city and he also likes to surprise me with them. In early December, he put a dinner on the calendar for Jan 24, 2015. Since I had just gone through my birthday in November and Christmas in December thinking every gift I opened was going to be a ring, but not getting one, I was suspicious of this dinner. Matt could tell, so he “ruined” the surprise by telling me the name of the restaurant and who we were meeting. I was disappointed, but still excited for the date. While I was finishing up getting ready, he stopped me, took my hands and went into his speech to propose. I was shocked and forgot to say yes…for a minute anyway! We had a great dinner, then he surprised me again with an engagement party at the Revolution Tap Room with family and friends, even one of my best friends from high school who had flown in from New York!

What we are looking forward to on the wedding day…We’re looking forward to finally getting to have the great party with all our loved ones that we’ve been working so hard to plan! Of course, we’re excited for the ceremony and officially tying the knot! Matt can’t wait to see Maggie come down the aisle and getting to have his friends by his side as groomsmen, some of whom are scattered around the country. I can’t wait to have everyone from both families together, since most of Matt’s family lives out of state. I’m also excited about the moment right after the ceremony in the bridal suite alone with Matt, so we can have a champagne toast and a, “we did it!” moment.
