Emily and Michael’s Wedding at EPIC Restaurant in Chicago,Illinois

You know me, I’m much better at taking pictures than writing. 🙂 But before we hear some words from the Bride and Groom, I’d like you to know that Emily and Michael’s First Look was beautiful and emotional, and I loved that they read their letters from each other together. It was an honor to photograph these moments, along with their fun and beautiful ceremony on the roofdeck of EPIC. My 2nd Photographer Nicoletta was there to get some super cool angles, and be my awesome photo sidekick. Emily and Michael’s Best Man and Maid of Honor gave the kind of speeches that are a joy to hear; funny, touching, and endearing. The dance party on a different floor of EPIC was packed, and Karin from Toast and Jam whipped everyone into a frenzy. 🙂 Let’s hear from the B&G, and see some photos of the big day!

Looking back, what were some of your favorite parts or moments of the Wedding day?
Emily: The moments that stand out the most for me are the first look, and the toasts given by my sister and my brother in law. Also, I felt incredibly lucky to be able to celebrate with so many of our friends and family members.

Michael: I was pretty blown away by how beautiful Emily looked. Also, I loved the overall feel of the reception. It felt much more like a party in the city, rather than a wedding reception.

What was your favorite piece of fashion or accessory, and where did you get it?

Emily: Mine was definitely my dress. I absolutely loved everything about it, but the open back was my favorite part.

Michael: By far, my favorite piece was the Omega Speedmaster watch that Emily gave me as a wedding gift. I also loved my J. Crew tuxedo.

What was the inspiration for your decor or styling?

Our goal was to highlight our favorite city and home – Chicago. We had a dual focus of creating a contemporary and clean style as well as an anti-wedding vibe, but without offending traditionalists. We love the Chicago restaurant scene, so we identified a venue (EPIC Restaurant) that captured this feel with zero additional effort on our part.

Mention a funny moment here:

Emily: We had two family members split their pants while dancing that night. I think that is the sign of a good party!

Michael: One of the funniest moments for me was during the photography session. I was directed to say something that would make Emily laugh. I whispered something incredibly inappropriate into her ear, and we ended up with a very authentic “laughing” photo.

Any advice for future Brides and Grooms?

Emily: Make sure to eat. We would have forgotten if it hadn’t been for Wilson, who was the outstanding banquet manager at EPIC.

Michael: This is a bit cliché, but plan the day the way that you want it. We did exactly that, and got some of the best all-around feedback I’ve ever heard for a wedding day. It’s a win-win.

Tell us a little about your Honeymoon!

We went to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and spent our time relaxing on the beach, eating great food and scuba diving.
