Gretchen and Erich’s ornate and lush Harold Washington Library Chicago Spring Wedding

Photographing Gretchen and Erich’s Wedding was a total joy. We love it when our clients trust us completely, and when they are excited for us to be creative! Here is a conversation with the Couple, as well as some of our favorite photos!

Looking back, what were some of your favorite parts or moments of the Wedding day?
1) As a bride, waiting outside the church (alone and cars honking as they drove by) for my dad to come meet me before walking me down the aisle to meet Erich at the altar. 2) Getting introduced as husband/wife for the first time at the church. 3) Walking into the reception for the first time and seeing all of our family and friends greet us as husband and wife.

What was your favorite piece of fashion or accessory, and where did you get it?
Favorite piece was the handkerchief my mom gave me the morning of our wedding day that was made from a piece of her wedding gown.

What was the inspiration for your decor or styling?
The goal for our style was to be elegant, but also warm and welcoming to our guest.  We enjoyed bringing spring colors into the décor to brighten up the room to create an environment of happiness and joy.

Mention a funny moment here:
One funny moment that makes me laugh to just think of the sight was when my bustle button popped off during the cocktail hour.  I called a bridesmaid to ask if she could come help me and the next thing I knew was my wedding planner, venue coordinator, mom, and 3 bridesmaids were in the room trying to sew my dress together.  6 ladies ran to my rescue to save the dress even before the reception started!

Any wedding advice for engaged couples?
Advice for newly engaged couples: do NOT sweat the small stuff, and laugh it off.  We had a few bumps occur throughout the day and nothing stopped us from having the best day of our lives.  Dress broke, oh well.  Ran out of vodka during cocktail hour, that’s hilarious. Bus transportation for bridal party was running behind, it’ll get there soon enough.  A groomsman lost his tie in the lobby of the hotel that was found tucked under a statue, that’s unreal.  Do not let any like bump in the “ideal routine” get to you.  Smile and laugh at whatever goes down!

Tell us about the honeymoon!
Costa Rica for the honeymoon was unreal! The people were very friendly and inviting.  We spent the first 7 days at a hotel in a small village that we felt welcomed to be a part of.  From playing soccer with the locals to our surf lessons with locals, it was perfect.  We spent the 2nd half of our honeymoon inland near the volcano to continue our adventures. We will never be able to repel down through waterfalls in the rain forest again, truly amazing!

What was it like working with Sprung Photo?
Working with Sprung Photo was such an ease! Communication from the get-go was very clear and easy to do. The entire staff was friendly from the moment they walked into the bridal suite to the very last photo snapped at the end of the night.  They made us both feel very comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera, which can be a very uncomfortable moment.  Every tiny detail we requested was completed. Plus, spur of the moment events that occurred were captured without any questions or directions.
