How-To Guide: First Dance Lighting at Brookfield Zoo

Karen and Mark are two of the sweetest and coolest people we’ve worked with. This is from their first dance at Brookfield Zoo.

For photographers: I stood outside big windows on the balcony, and I have a lightstand with flash inside. The light is to camera left behind a pillar about 8 feet from the couple, basically beneath the prism effects here. Speaking of that, I am holding a prism up to my camera to get these effects. I also moved the camera side to side during exposure to get the motion blur.

Settings and gear: Canon 5D markiii, Canon 24-70mm ii at 24mm, Canon 600ex-rt flash with MagMod MagGrid and MagSphere. Flash is at 1/16th power. ISO 1600, shutter 1/20th, aperture f/2.8.
